‘I know that God’s been calling me for a long time and the devil’s been distracting me for a long time,” said rapper, designer, and entrepreneur, Kanye West while on stage with Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen in Houston, Texas when he released his first gospel music album in 2019, Jesus Is King

Not exactly what you’d expect to hear from a rapper who once sang songs that glorified anything and everything but God. Yet Kanye shared that he’s been born again and had a true change of heart. Kanye told GQ magazine that he is born again in no uncertain terms when they asked him, “Do you conceptualize yourself as born again?” West replied, “I’m definitely born again.”

In 2019 and leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, West hosted Sunday Service, a gospel service featuring his gospel music, choirs, and church experience.

Kanye is not totally new to the Christian world, having grown up in church, attending service up to 3 times a week when he was growing up. But the world lured him with the idea of fame, money, and power. He’s now using his influence to point people to the only superstar.

‘The only superstar is Jesus,” West explained as he encouraged Lakewood to speak up and use their voice for Christ, not allowing society to silence their voices.

West, shared how God’s changed his heart and humbled him, and made sure to give God the glory.

“I remember sitting in the hospital at UCLA after having a mental breakdown, there is documentation of me drawing a church and writing, “start a church in the middle of Calabasas.”

In terms of the future music career of Kanye, he says it’s white-hot and in full pursuit of God and excellence through music to inspire the next generation, “We dropping that heat, we in the studio, God is strengthening our hands, we have writers, we have producers, we taking all the most fire producers and bringing them back to God. All the best voices, all the best dancers, all the worship for us to see that it’s through Christ. Following the Bible can free us all.”

Kanye called on the United States to come back to God, and stop trying to take the prayer of out of schools to be the Christian nation that we are again. “When you remove the fear and love of God you create the fear and love of everything else. Reinstate the fear and love of God and eliminate the fear and love of everything else.”

West now seems determined to use his platform to share his faith.

“God is not the enemy, God is not negative. God is love, God is the greatest, is the glory. God is friendship, God is prosperity.”
